Anxiety & Panic
Anxiety can be debilitating. Around 40 millions adults in the United States suffer from an anxiety disorder—that’s twelve percent!
Anxiety shows up differently in every person but can present with worry, excessive fears, and dread along with physical symptoms such as racing heart, shortness of breath, sweating, and lightheadedness.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety isn’t just in your mind and emotions. It actually has a lot to do with your body. In fact, I often observe the following factors contributing to anxiety in my patients: gut imbalances, sympathetic (fight-or-flight) dominance, hyperventilation syndrome, nutrient deficiencies, low blood sugar, disordered eating and complex PTSD.
Anxiety Treatment
Treatment for anxiety and panic disorders typically includes therapy (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy) and medications (such as SSRIs or benzodiazepines). While these treatments are very helpful for some, they aren’t enough for others.
When a person’s anxiety is caused by underlying imbalances in their physiology, additional investigation and treatment is necessary. I offer patients a variety of treatment approaches including mindbody medicine and biofeedback, nutrition, herbs and supplements, lifestyle changes, homeopathy, and others.
